Beloved GSA Network!
May we bask in the sunlight and absorb the energy of its lifeforce. As we enter a month full of growth, we reflect upon the blooming cycle our environments are experiencing around us. Notice the blooming cycles of plants in your community, and learn how they use a powerful combination of internal and external signals that initiate the flowering process.
In many ways, the teenage human experience is just another form of this lifecycle- internal and external signals that either support or suppress our unique personhood directed by our learning environments. Plants share innate responses that drive them to adapt and survive. For trans, queer, and Two Spirit (TQ2S+) youth, and many other marginalized students, we are socialized to be distrustful of our intuition, which has potentially fatal consequences.

Living our true and evolving expression of self is a daily choice of dignity and devotion, for young people of all genders and cultures. In a country with authoritarian political leaders, the right to our personhood, let alone studenthood, is at risk. We see this tension throughout history; the colonial project of using educational institutions to eradicate non-dominant cultures and ways of being connects American Indian Boarding Schools to modern-day censorship laws and GSA club bans. Pride in our queerness and transness, in the context of U.S. anti-queer/trans violence, is a choice of defiance in service of living.
When the entire community has permission to grow together, we experience the beauty and enchanting powers of a superbloom. Imagine the scene in the Wizard of Oz where Dorothy and her friends fall asleep in the field of poppies, except we are awakening to the streets filled with people power. May Day was a perfect example of human life blooming together, forming a united front and real-time landscape shift as workers of the world. We saw students and clubs across the country move from their classroom seats to the streets, demanding economic justice in our communities, comprehensive education in our schools, and self-determination for all people!
With over 1000 GSA clubs seeded, rooted, and growing toward the sun, the potential of a superbloom is one of individual club and collective alignment with the shared world and culture around us. Trust the call from within and without to know when it is time to stretch toward your potential. The GSA superbloom is inevitable. #TQ2SYouthPower
